#7: Santa Smiles

December 10, 2024
Dr. Tanner Townsend hosts a special episode of Smile Reconstruction discussing the Santa Smiles campaign at Montana Center for Implants and Dentures. Three elves, Tommy, Peppermint Stick, and Miles Townsend, explain the campaign, which aims to help 50 people get new smiles by removing barriers like cost and providing payment plans. Participants must write a letter or make a video to Santa explaining why they or someone else deserves a new smile. The elves emphasize the joy of giving back and the importance of spreading holiday cheer. Submissions should be sent to Montana Implants, and selected individuals will receive a free consultation to tailor their treatment.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 0:05 Welcome everyone to a special episode of smile reconstruction. And today, we have a special episode where we have some unique guests with us today, and we are going to be talking about Santa smiles, which is a promotion that we’re running at Montana center for implants and dentures. Joining us today are three of Santa’s elves who have escaped from the workshop temporarily so they can tell us the inside scoop about the Santa smiles campaign and all of the holiday cheer that surrounds it. Well, we’re gonna get started to get by learning a little bit more about the three elves that have snuck away from Santa’s workshop. We’re going to get to know them a little bit better. So first we have a couple of elves sitting over here. Tommy

Dr. Tanner Townsend 0:51 Elf, what is your name? Tell us where you’re from.

Tommy 0:54 Tommy

Dr. Tanner Townsend 0:55 You’re Tommy. Tommy. Where are you from

Tommy 1:00 Santa’s workshop.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:01 Okay, that’s great. I was hoping you would say Wisconsin. Okay, what is your name, elf,

Peppermint Stick 1:07 Peppermint Stick

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:08 Peppermint stick. Okay, well, we are glad to have you, Tommy and Peppermint Stick, and we have one elf right here. What’s your name?

Miles 1:15 Miles Townsend.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:17 Oh, Miles Townsend, I love it. Well, tell us, Tommy, Peppermint Stick and Miles, what is your favorite part about Christmas? Peppermint Stick? You first.

Peppermint Stick 1:29 Presents

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:30 Presents. Tommy.

Tommy 1:31 Making the presents.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:32 Making the presents. Miles, what’s your favorite part?

Miles 1:35 Making the toys

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:36 Making the toys. And also, what is you, I’m assuming you guys watch holiday movies all the time. What’s your favorite Christmas movie, Tommy, what’s yours?

Tommy 1:48 Home Alone.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:48 Home Alone. That’s a good one Peppermint Stick?

Peppermint Stick 1:52 Elf

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:53 Elf. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

Miles 1:55 Santa Claus.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 1:56 Oh, that’s a good one too. How do you guys get your elf magic to work. How does it work? Up at Santa’s workshop?

Tommy 2:03 Well, being good and making presents is mine.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 2:07 So by being good, you have magic to make toys?

Tommy 2:10 Yeah

Dr. Tanner Townsend 2:11 Whoa. I didn’t know elves had to be good.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:13 Where does your magic come from?

Peppermint Stick 2:15 My hands.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:16 Ooh, magic hands.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 2:18 Were you born with these magic hands?

Peppermint Stick 2:20 No

Dr. Tanner Townsend 2:21 Wow. How’d you get magic hands?

Peppermint Stick 2:23 I dipped on the Santa Claus hat.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:25 Whoa.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 2:29 Wow. Miles. Do you have any other things to add about how you gained your magic to make toys you just came out with magic. I love it. That’s great.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:38 So I do have a question. Who’s the oldest elf here?

Tommy 2:43 I am

Dr. Josh Muir 2:44 And Tommy, the oldest elf. How old are you?

Tommy 2:48 About 332 years old.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:51 332 years old? Wow, you’re an old elf.

Tommy 2:54 So they can get older.

Dr. Josh Muir 2:55 So my question for you is, do you enjoy when you make a toy, and you know that a boy or a girl is going to get that toy, and it’ll make them so happy. What part of that do you enjoy?

Tommy 3:10 I can join when I watch them seeing their faces light up so big.

Dr. Josh Muir 3:15 So something about giving something special to someone else? Is that what you would say?

Tommy 3:20 Yeah

Dr. Josh Muir 3:21 Okay, that’s neat. So Tommy, you’ve told us that you like seeing the faces of these special boys and girls light up when they see one of your presents with the Santa smiles campaign that we’re doing. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about that and how it’s similar to what you do

Tommy 3:40 Well, when, like you guys, fix their teeth, it turns their frown upside down.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 3:45 Well, Peppermint Stick. What does it take for someone that wants to participate in Santa’s smiles? What is the first thing that they need to do?

Peppermint Stick 3:53 Write a letter to Santa or make a movie of it.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 3:56 What should they talk about in that video recording? What are some things that they should let Santa know?

Peppermint Stick 4:02 That they want your smile, if they how they want your smile kind of or how they want someone else’s smile to look.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 4:09 Okay. So this movie can be about someone else that they think is deserving of getting a new smile.

Peppermint Stick 4:15 Yep.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 4:15 Okay, that’s wonderful. Well, Tommy, I’ve got a question for you. Is that okay?

Tommy 4:19 Yeah.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 4:20 So with Santa’s Smiles, our goal is to work with in partnership with Santa, to help people get new smiles. We want to help 50 people get a new smile. So Tommy, after everyone gets their letter in and their video in, what’s the next step that someone that submits their letter to Santa can expect?

Tommy 4:42 They can expect, like a phone call that will come to tell them that you’ll fix their teeth.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 4:48 Once they get that phone call and they’re coming in to the office, what’s that first appointment gonna be for that person?

Peppermint Stick 4:55 They ran out what they need

Dr. Tanner Townsend 4:57 Exactly. So they’re gonna get a console where we kind of figure out what they need and how we can kind of work with Santa to get them new teeth.

Dr. Josh Muir 5:06 Miles, is it good to help just one person, or is it good to help lots of people?

Miles 5:12 It’s good to help lots of people.

Dr. Josh Muir 5:14 Okay, thank you. So, something that’s important to note is the reason we’re stretching this out to 50 people, and the reason we’re able to do this is our goal is to remove barriers that prevent people from getting their treatment completed. And some of those might include reducing the price. Some of those might be some payment plans. Some of those might be just having someone to talk to about the options in an environment that’s not pushy, just so they know what what’s available to them, and then helping them move forward with that. But the point is, we want to remove as many barriers as we can while still being able to help as many people as we can and spread this, spread this help around to help a lot of individuals and families. So, peppermint steak. Do you like that idea?

Peppermint Stick 6:05 Yep.

Dr. Josh Muir 6:06 Tommy, do you like that idea?

Tommy 6:07 Yeah, it’s a very good idea.

Dr. Josh Muir 6:08 Oh, good. What do you like about it?

Tommy 6:10 I like how you can spread, like, the help and just like, spread it around so you can help a lot more people.

Dr. Josh Muir 6:16 Oh, okay, well, good. Miles does that sound okay?

Miles 6:20 Yeah

Dr. Josh Muir 6:21 When you go back to the North Pole and talk to Santa, and you tell him what we’re doing to try to help people, do you think he’s going to approve it?

Tommy 6:29 Oh, yeah, he will.

Dr. Josh Muir 6:30 What will he like about it?

Tommy 6:32 I think he like that on Christmas Day, there’s going to be a lot more smiles that day the so he can see that they like his work, and because of it, it’s because it they liked your work.

Dr. Josh Muir 6:47 Oh, thank you. And peppermint stick. Why do you think Santa will approve of all of this?

Peppermint Stick 6:55 Um, instead, give it to one person doing this to one person to do it to more than one.

Dr. Josh Muir 7:01 So Tommy, would you tell us something about what it means to give back?

Tommy 7:06 Well, it means like, if someone’s been giving you stuff, like, if teachers or someone’s like, just giving you stuff, like giving it to giving it to you, like, learning or stuff, then you can, like, give back, like, show them, like, something you’ve been working on, or like, just giving it back, like not making them do something and you can do it for them, and just like, letting them know that you’re trying and that you just want to help them.

Dr. Josh Muir 7:35 Yeah, so I like that you said that, that you just want to help them. So peppermint stick. Tell us what is giving back and helping someone giving back.

Peppermint Stick 7:46 It’s kind of like, if, like, someone gave you something, you give them back with something else.

Dr. Josh Muir 7:53 Yeah, if someone gives you something, you can give something also. Dr Townsend, we’ve had the opportunity to hear from these elves, from Tommy, from Peppermint Stick and from Miles. And it sounds like Santa approves of this campaign. And so just to make sure we’re doing it right in the way that Santa has approved, it sounds like first Santa needs to know who’s interested, and so they need to write a letter to Santa, telling why they or someone that they know and love is deserving of getting this special help. They can also make a movie, even just a selfie video with their phone, telling why they or someone else is a good candidate for this.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 8:41 So the next step is to submit your letter, or the letter you’re submitting for someone on someone else’s behalf, into Santa’s mailbox in our office at Montana center for implants at dentures, or record a video and upload that and send it to info@montanaimplants.com.

Dr. Josh Muir 9:02 info@montanaimplants.com. after those are submitted, Santa will review those. He gets back in touch with us and says, here’s my list. These are the people that we have space for this year to help with the Santa smiles campaign. And then our office will contact them with the next steps. You know, I really like that. There’s not a commitment tied to this. What we’ll do is we’ll bring him in. We’ll do a free consult, of course, like we like we would with anyone, but then we’ll go over the ways that this Santa smiles promotion is going to help them, and we’ll tailor that help to each person on Santa’s list, so we can help as many as we can.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 9:42 So we’ve got some rapid fire questions for the three of you. Peppermint sick. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

Peppermint Stick 9:50 My power out of my fingers.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 9:52 The power out of your fingers. Okay, Miles, what’s the best Christmas present present you ever gotten? Cars?

Miles 10:00 Cars

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:01 Okay, Tommy?

Tommy 10:02 This hat from Santa?

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:04 Wow. You got a hat from Santa? Yep. Man, that is incredible.

Dr. Josh Muir 10:09 Tell us about where that hat came from.

Tommy 10:11 Well, I was coming, I came down and was in a house checking to make sure everything was okay. And when I was about to go up, I thought Santa dropped his hat. So when I picked it up and I went back up to the North Pole and said, Here’s her hat, he said, You can have it and gave it to me.

Dr. Josh Muir 10:27 That’s a pretty special story.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:28 That is an incredible story my house. What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?

Miles 10:33 Cars

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:34 Giving cars or receiving cars? That’s excellent. Tommy. What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?

Tommy 10:41 Um, I think when we’re at the North Pool, when Santa brings these cookies back and we get to eat them.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:49 That’s incredible. What, what kind of cookies are your favorite?

Dr. Josh Muir 10:52 Oh, boy, my favorite. It’s gotta be chocolate chip.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:56 Oh, for sure.

Dr. Josh Muir 10:57 Yep.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 10:58 I like chocolate chip.

Dr. Josh Muir 10:58 Crispy edges, warm and gooey center.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 11:02 Making my mouth water right now. Peppermint Stick. What’s your favorite tradition?

Peppermint Stick 11:05 Eating on Christmas.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 11:07 Eating on Christmas. Is there anything in particular?

Peppermint Stick 11:11 Um, candy canes.

Tommy 11:14 I have another one.

Dr. Tanner Townsend 11:15 Okay

Tommy 11:16 Um, when Santa gives us these small presents, like, just gives us, like a little toys play with after we work, or like, just gives us, like something so we work faster. I like when he gives and we receive.

Dr. Josh Muir 11:31 Okay, elves, let’s pretend that you weren’t elves, but instead you were actual little boys that were maybe nine years old and 10 years old. And if you were these little boys, what would be your favorite Christmas tradition?

Tommy 11:47 Probably finding presents for people.

Dr. Josh Muir 11:50 Really? So tell me about that.

Tommy 11:52 Well, like if I had a brother or a sister, I would just like looking around until I found something perfect for them. Then when they opened it up, it would be like such a surprise if they finally got what they wanted. Yeah.

Dr. Josh Muir 12:04 Okay, yeah, if you weren’t an elf.

Tommy 12:08 Yeah

Dr. Josh Muir 12:09 So Peppermint Stick, if you weren’t an elf, what would be your favorite holiday tradition?

Peppermint Stick 12:16 Um, finding the presents.

Dr. Josh Muir 12:20 Finding the presents. What does that mean?

Peppermint Stick 12:22 Um, because sometimes I watch Santa Claus and he hides them.

Dr. Josh Muir 12:26 Santa Claus hides him. Wow. What types of places does he hide presents?

Tommy 12:31 Like beneath couches or like in like behind couch cushions or behind chairs and in basements or under beds.

Dr. Josh Muir 12:41 Tricky Santa, huh?

Tommy 12:44 Or outside.

Dr. Josh Muir 12:44 So miles, if you weren’t an elf, but instead you were just a little boy named Miles. What would be your favorite thing to eat at Christmas time?

Miles 12:56 Rice chex

Dr. Josh Muir 12:57 Rice chex, good. That’s a really good Christmas treat. So back to if you were all boys instead of elves, what would be your favorite Christmas treat?

Tommy 13:10 Maybe cake or cookies.

Dr. Josh Muir 13:13 Ooh, cake or cookies? Yeah. Have you seen a lot of kids like cake and cookies?

Tommy 13:17 Yeah Dr. Josh Muir 13:19 So peppermint steak. What would be your favorite Christmas treat if you were not an elf and you were a boy?

Peppermint Stick 13:24 Molock cake. It’s kind of like a log.

Dr. Josh Muir 13:27 Oh, a Yule log cake?

Peppermint Stick 13:29 Yep.

Dr. Josh Muir 13:30 Oh, wow. What do you like about that?

Tommy 13:32 I’ve never had one of those.

Peppermint Stick 13:34 The cream.

Dr. Josh Muir 13:36 Yeah, so it’s in the shape of a log, but it’s a it’s a roll, right? Those are special. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about the Santa smiles campaign. If someone wants to participate, what do they need to do? What’s step one?

Tommy 13:54 Put in this, put in a letter to mail to Santo or a video that they can submit in,

Dr. Josh Muir 14:02 Okay. And what do they do with that? Step two, where do they put it?

Tommy 14:06 They put it in the Santa box, like the letter, Dr. Josh Muir 14:10 Could they email the video? Tommy 14:11 Yeah, they could email the video to us.

Dr. Josh Muir 14:13 Okay, to you guys.

Tommy 14:14 Yeah

Dr. Josh Muir 14:15 All right. And then, where do those get sent?

Tommy 14:18 Um, they get sent to Santa’s workshop. And they come through the elves to Santa.

Dr. Josh Muir 14:26 Okay, once Santa reviews those letters and videos, then who does he let know who he’s selected?

Tommy 14:33 He’ll probably let me first so I can let you guys we’re the head elf, so I can tell me or whoever, can put give them back to you guys and say and tell who got submitted so that you guys could work on them.

Dr. Josh Muir 14:49 Okay? And then, how do those people find out they’ve been chosen?

Tommy 14:55 You guys will call or text them, and then you can tell them that. It’s been chosen.

Dr. Josh Muir 15:01 So peppermint steak, should people be scared to participate?

Peppermint Stick 15:06 No

Dr. Josh Muir 15:07 Why?

Peppermint Stick 15:08 It mainly helps them so they know what kind of going on.

Dr. Josh Muir 15:12 Yeah, it mainly helps them. Miles, is it good to help people?

Miles 15:16 Yeah, a lot of people.

Dr. Josh Muir 15:18 A lot of people, all right, my three little elves. So Miles, Peppermint Stick and Tommy.
